Our Story…
Alright, gather 'round, folks!
Let me take you back to the smoky, sizzling days of late August 1865 in the wild, wild backcountry of Indiana, right on the banks of the mighty Wabash River.
Picture this: a place where the aroma of sizzling meat and the laughter of folks filled the air - it was the birth of the legendary Fat Jon's BBQ Trading Post!
Now, you see, Fat Jon wasn't your average pioneer.
Nah, he was a feller with a hankering for three things in life: good barbecue, good spirits and a knack for getting along with the natives.
While most folks were lockin' horns with the Indians, Fat Jon was dishing out ribs and brisket, smothered in his secret sauce, and fire water, all in a gesture of peace.
He believed in "barbecue diplomacy," and let me tell ya, it worked like a charm!

(By the way: This is the only known photograph of that old, beloved trading post, taken on the Banks of the Wabash River in late August 1865.)
Fat Jon's BBQ joint was the place where redcoats and settlers, Native Americans and traders, all came together to feast on his finger-lickin' good creations.
The secret to his success?
Well, it was a combination of the finest hickory and cherry-smoked meats, a pinch of Fat Jon's secret rub, Fat Jon's Bourbon, and a whole lotta love.
Ain't no barbecue like a Fat Jon's BBQ!
But as they say, all good things gotta come to an end.
One fateful night, Fat Jon was sippin' a glass of moonshine in a seedy saloon just downstream from the trading post in Murray, in a small settlement known as 'Ossian'.
You see, the man had a charm about him that drew folks in, including the ladies.
Now, one thing Fat Jon couldn't resist was a pretty face and a good conversation.
He was a chattin' away with a lovely lady when her jealous husband, fueled by liquid courage, sneaked up on him.
Then Bam!
Shot 'em in the back at 2:00 a.m., just like that.
It was a sad day in the backcountry of Indiana when Fat Jon passed, but his legacy lived on through the mouthwatering barbecue recipes he left behind.
The trading post carried on his name, and every bite of his famous barbecue was a tribute to the man himself.
They say legends never die, and that holds true for Fat Jon, the BBQ pioneer with a heart as big as his flavors.

So, next time you're tuckin' into a plate of lip-smackin' ribs or pullin' apart some tender brisket, remember the man who started it all on the banks of the Wabash River in 1865.
